I have several computers on a 4 port DSL router. One Win98 box was working fine till I tried putting a Win2k computer on my LAN. Now, the Win98 Box can't seem to dynamically set up to access the DSL, even though it did before and all the network settings are correct. The Win2k box is gone, but the damage seems to remain to the Win98 box. When I run winipcfg it doesn't show any DNS server nor show the computer linked up to the DSL.

Anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it?

Setup -
Asus P2B-F motherboard
Celeron II 566 @ 850 MHz.
256 meg RAM
ATI Expert 98 Video Card
Seagate 10 Gig 7200 RPM
Netgear FA311 NIC
Sound Blaster 16 ISA sound card

I know this is probably a stupid question but did you take a look into the router. Maybe it needs a simple reboot or some configurations are off.

Oh ya,
what kind of router is it?

I thought about the router too... rebooted it etc. and I even put another computer on the line thinking it may be dead, but no, the router and line are fine and work with the other computer.

The router is an Efficient Networks SpeedStream model 5871. It's only a 10 MBit hub :-(

Hey Scarecrow... you're part of Tom's Seti Team aren't you? I recognize the name now! Yeah, this is one of my SETI boxes that's gone dead, and all seemingly because I was playing around with Win2k! At least I was able to copy my five completed work units off to another computer and send them back last night! I'm about ready to reload from scratch so I can get the box back on line... got some people creaping up my backside as I slow down!

There's a big difference between a router and a hub.

It's a 4 port DSL router, OK? That's four RJ45 plug-ins! It acts as a 4 port 10 Mbit hub for the computers connected to it. I don't think it's a switch... just a simple hub.
