First Computer Rig. Need advice

So my late computer fried on me recently. It was a 10 year old P4(ahahha). I feel like its lived its life. Time for it to go and hypernate. I thought it was appropriate to get a brand new one now and i want it to last for awhile and with some space to upgrade in the future if I decide too. Here is some info I have.

Approximate Purchase Date: Tuesday, August 23, 2011 (ASAP)

Budget Range: $1000-$1500 Before Rebates

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, watching movies, surfing the internet.

Parts Not Required: keyboard, monitor.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: ncix.com - i live in toronto so better for me and i could price check

Parts Preferences: Nvidia

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe (most likely not but if posible i would prefer to have the opportunity too.)

Additional Comments: This is my first build so i'm not 100% sure about everything. I want to make sure everything will work together and fit properly.
