More about graphic card gta4
  1. 9800GT would be about a max card I would pair with Pentium D. It should run fine on your 375watt PSU.
  2. Your in a sticky one thats for sure, Your CPU is very outdated and will struggle alot with the games you listed, and will certainly bottleneck any half decent graphics card, the other issue is that GTA4 loves VRAM (Video Random Access Memory), and in theory you could get a low end card with 1GB of VRAM (Still not alot for GTA4) the trouble with this is that a low end GPU will run out of GPU "grunt" before it even has a chance to us its 1GB of VRAM so in effect lots of VRAM on low end cards is pointless in almost all instances. You could get a 9600GT, it would play the games you listed on very low settings.

Maybe its time for a complete system upgrade (Rather than pouring money into an outdated system).
  3. core 2 duo with mother board that support ddr3 ram will be fine enough with a card like 9800gtx to play gta4,crsysis2 ?
  4. Depends on the C2D that you were to get, something like the C2D E8400 would be fairly good, however if you can stretch to a quadcore like the AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.20Ghz that would increase the useful lifespan of the PC as many games comming out now use more than 2 cores.

The AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition is just £90 which IMO is a bargin: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-244-AM&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1943

If you could give us a budget to work with we could recommend some components.
  5. My experience with GTA4 is that it really requires at least 3 CPU cores. It is triple threaded, and runs VERY poorly on all but the very fastest (or OCed) current dual core CPUs. It frankly ran like a slideshow on my old 2.6GHz Athlon 64 4200+ (dual core) and a GTX260 GPU. Once I upgraded to an i5 760 (quad core) with the same GPU it ran at full frame rate.
  6. i5 is expensive i am looking for a low range processor

Try getting a 6 core AMD processor.they are cheaper and pretty good
  8. dam !!!!!!!!!!!! man quad core amd amd is like a half a price of i5
  9. will xfx 8800 gtx 384 bit 768 mb ddr 3 will work on d955 mother board
with pentium d processor dell precision barnded machine with 375 wats power supply
  10. My old desktop uses a Pentium D and it can run GTA 4 fine with a ATI 512MB 4670.

I will say you can run GTA 4 on high graphics and frames with any card better than a 4670.

EDIT: If you want to play Crysis 2 well, I will look into a new machine.
  11. GTA 4 is very very CPU dependent it wont run very well on a low powered CPU heck it dosent run well on a decent CPU.

    Mactronix :)
  12. i am installing gta4 and i will let you now that how it is working
  13. depends on your resolution. either way i think maybe its time for a total system overhaul
  14. My specs:
    Intel Core2duo E7200 2.57GHz(OCed to 2.9GHz)
    Intel DG31PR motherboard
    4GB DDR2 RAM
    Nvidia GT440 1GB
I can play all games you mentioned on almost max setting without any lag and at 25-30fps.

Is this running the GTA4 benchmark test? I got scores like that too, but they were not representative of actual gameplay. Average frame rates are irrelevant in a game like GTA4. What is the minimum frame rate? For my Athlon 4200+ at 2.6GHz and a GTX260, minimum frame rates of 15 FPS were typical, even at lowish quality settings (running 1600x1200 res). Totally unplayable, unless you are a masochist. If you Google various dual core systems and GTA4, you will quickly discover this game is simply horrible on all but high end or OCed dual core systems (3.4 GHz+), yet modestly clocked triple or quads have little trouble giving quality gameplay. Incidentally, Prototype and Saints Row 2 suffer from the same issues - just terrible console ports.
  16. just cause 2 is bigger than gta 4,looks better than gta 4 and runs better than gta 4.Thats pc optimisation. My intel core i7 870 and gtx 275 destroy gta 4 but thats bcoz of my cpu.
  17. GTA 4 is as i have said very core dependent. At stock speeds the Quads kill dual core cards. However if you OC the nuts off of a Duo and a high end Quad the Duo closes the gap a lot.

  18. quad core vs i3 which is better in gaming without over clocking?
quad core 2.6ghz with 6mb cachae
and i3 with 2.93ghz and with 4mb cache
and i3 with ddr3 ram and quad core with ddr2 ram
  19. Both would be pretty close, Personally i would side with the newer tech i3. I'm going to guess that your talking about the i3 530 and probably the Q 9400 ?
A cheap Phenom II dual is a match for the Q 9400 so there is better value to be had than either of the two options you have asked about.

I gave up on gta4. Bought it from best buy last year. Couldn't find any updates for the game that would fix the 9fps issue I was and still am having.

    2.8 Ghz Q6600
    4gigs of ddr2 1066 5-5-5-15

    went from a 5750 to a 6850 and guess what. Still can't break 15fps in gta4......

As I said its a pathetic excuse for a pc game .For the amount of fps I am getting I can see jagginess everywhere even on cars.THIS GAME NEEDS ATLEAST 8XAA.
