Overlocking the GTX 560 vs HD 6870

Hey guys, i would like to know which graphics card overclocks better.
I am ONLY interested in the HD 6870 or GTX 560 (NOT THE "Ti" VERSION)
Also, will i get any bottlenecks with my setup? -thanks

My setup is:

Gigabyte H55M-UD2H
Intel Core i3 530 at 2.93ghz (dual core)
Mushkin enhanced 4gb (2x2GB) at 1333mhz
Monitor Resolution at 1600x900 ALWAYS
Western digital 500gb at 7200rpm 16mb cache
HD Radeon 5770 vapour-x overclocked
Sufficient fan cooling

More about overlocking 6870
  1. They are very similar in performance and should have similar overclocking potential. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GeForce_GTX_560_TOP_Direct_Cu_II/27.html
Either card should do fine on your setup.
  2. I personally would go with the 6870, in my opinion it is a better card. If not just save a little more and get a 560 ti. That's a good overclocker.
  3. How can you calculate $ per fps? im too lazy to figure it out. I just wanna see how much percentage difference there is between the HD 6870 vs GTX 560 vs GTX Ti fps wise.
  4. they are both pretty much on par, trading blows with different games. the 6870 is known for poor overclocking.... but it uses less power, if that is of any concern to you? make sure your PSU is up to powering whichever card you chose.
  5. My psu is 500 watts. Is that significant enough to handle any of the cards? Basically i want to be able to play skyrim and BF3 on high. Will the GTX 560 or HD 6870 do that? Or will i have to go up one more step to the GTX 560 Ti? If so, will my PSU handle it as well as my setup?
  6. a GTX 560 or a 6870 will play BF3 or skyrim on high. You have to be specific on the PSU to see if it run it or not. Post details about your PSU.
  7. The 6870 is well known for having little overclocking headroom. The 560, on the other hand, is known to be a great overclocker, capable of reaching over 1 Ghz. Add in the fact that Nvidia clocks its shaders at 2x the core speed, while AMD clocks shaders at 1x the core speed, it all adds up to better OC scaling and the 560 being a better card for overclocking enthusiasts with more potential on the high end.
  8. My PSU is a thermaltake TR-2 500watt with 43 amps combined on the 12V1 + 12V2 :D

however are you sure you need to overclock cause although the 560 is an overclocking god it still usually gets slightly outpreformed by the 6870 even when the 560 is at 925 MHz, the top superclock speed on the market.
