My system specs are as follows:

Mobo:
BIOSTAR N68S AM2+/AM3 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
[Has PCI and PCI Express x16]

CPU:
AMD Athlon II X2 245 Regor 2.9GHz

RAM:
2x WINTEC AMPX 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 800MHz

OS:
Genuine 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate

I was thinking of buying a PNY GeForce GT 520 (Fermi) 1GB card. they seem to be cheap and run well.
I'm aiming to be able to run FarCry2 and Alliance of Valiant Arms very well, along with Left4Dead2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Would this be a good (DirectX11) card? Or does anybody have a more recommended card?

GT520 is not really for gaming, beyond perhaps Quake3 from 1999...if even that.

Try to find perhaps a 5770(same as 6770 but cheaper!) or GTX550....you will thank me later.... :)

I have recently gotten more money from a friend (for selling them a PC) and I have $140 to spend on a graphics card.
I'm choosing to get this for my games.

EVGA GeForce GTS 450.

Is it worth the $120?

yeah I would oc that cpu as much as you can, and get something along the lines of a 5770, the gts 450 is not worth 120 imo bc you can get a 5770 which outperforms it for the same price or cheaper. I would not go any higher than say a 6850 though if you do not plan on ocing.. COD, LFD2, and Far Cry 2, im sure run solid on dual cores.

BTW all the games you mentioned have zero dx11 features (not that it matters) just fyi COD and LFD are dx9

OP:

please list your full system specs including powers supply make and model and monitors resolution?

whatever you do not get a 520 if you want to game with it those cards are complete crap for gaming

Nexus NX-5000 (500 watt) PSU
AMD Athlon II 3.0GHz Processor
2GB Wintec AMPX 800MHz DDR2 RAM
and here's my motherboard on newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

I'm using the stock cooler that came with my processor
and well, a "gaming" case. with plenty of airflow.

(I've changed my build since I first posted here)

well your psu sounds sketchy to me so I would stick with a 5770 which has barley any draw and I would get another 2 gigs of ram, what resolution do you game at? You should be able to oc a bit even with the stock cooler. For example I have a backup rig with a athlon II 240 x2 2.8ghz oc'ed to 3.5ghz on the stock cooler with zero problems and generally low temps

I disobey, lol.
I think I'm going to save some money and buy the EVGA GeForce GTS 450, and overclock it to FTW numbers.
Save some money, buy a monitor.

For $120 you can get a GTX 550 Ti which draws about 10W more than the GTS 450/HD 5770/6770 and outperforms both.

None of these cards will be able to really utilize DX11 features as they are slow cards for people with a low budget.
