When I purchased this board six months ago I thought i read it had on board support for simultaneous display of 1 HDMI and 1 vga without use of an additional video card using crossfire... and using crossfire could support 2 hdmi or up to 4 screens at once, 2 high res, 2 low...
I have now hooked up two screens, 1 hdmi, 1 regular vga, but cannot get it to recognize the vga... would anyone know if i can configure the board to work with this configuration, 1 hdmi, 1 vga using only the on board video chips?

Did you shut down, plug in the VGA, and restart? I am not positive it supports multiple monitors but I know it doesn't support hot plugging the displays

Yes, rebooted several times... i recall reading before I bought the board it could support 4 screens with crossfire and 2 without but i cannot find that in the manual or remember where i read that spec... maybe i am having an early senior moment....
