I'm building a new system around a P8Z77-V & i7-3770K for primarily daily use and video encoding. I originally planned on using a LSI raid card & 4 spindles for the video storage, then changed my mind to just stick with 2 drives with the onboard Intel solution. I'm looking at the LSI/3Ware solutions again, and I can't seem to find any of their cards which are compatible with a Z77 motherboard (but their lists haven't been updated since 2010).
I was prepared to spend $4-600 on the RAID controller itself, using at least four Hitachi HDS723020BLA642 drives (they are on the 3ware compatibility list). I'd like it to have at least RAID 0, 0+1, 1+0, 5, and 50 would be nice if I ever get at least 6 drives. The Highpoint reviews don't give me much comfort. I've used Adaptec in the past but not since Wide SCSI was new, and the reviews I came across indicated they had poorer performance than LSI. The IBM M5015 card gives great performance in our x3850, but it doesn't look like IBM has Windows 7 drivers, nor is it supported by them outside of their servers; and the M5015 appears to be a rebranded LSI 9260-8i, which comes full circle to compatibility.
I sent their sales team an e-mail, but does anyone in here have first hand experience with any RAID card compatibility with the Asus Z77 boards? Other suggestions?
