Hello everyone!

I'm on the market for a new GPU. I just stumbled upon the PassMark Software site, which compares every High-End GPU model against each other and gives them a rating based on performance.

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

According to this, I would be better off with a GeForce GTX 480 (3530 rating) than with an AMD 6950/6970 (3108/3132) card.

My question is: how accurate / relevant is this chart performance wise?

Should I choose my new CPU based on whatever this chart says?

What $250 to $300 GPU would you recommend?

Thanks in advance! :D

Passmark looks iffy. Dual GPU scaling is completely off. It also seems like they are taking averages of user submissions, which could factor in the variance of other specs. I won;t bet too much on the CPU benches either.

IMO, techpowerup's GPU performance summaries are fairly accurate:

In most cases, the 480 is a better card than the 6950 though, while the 6970 is a tad better.

In your price range, its pretty much the GTX560Ti/HD6950 that's the most attractive (occasionally, past generations pop up, but other than the 5870, everything else is either too weak or hot/power consuming).

The 6950 is a bit more expensive, but generally performs better and has the...

The 6950 is a bit more expensive, but generally performs better and has the slim chance of unlocking depending on the model you get. It also draws a tad less power and had eyefinity.

The GTX560Ti is a bit cooler running (reference), has CUDA/Nvidia 3D Vision and slightly cheaper depending on where you look.
