Please help i am trying to use my ati AD6850 on an older game namley final fantasy xi, howerver when trying to play the game i get a blank flashing screen and then a an error failed to start direct 3d. I read that i could open a progem that uses direct 3d and the program would start, i used Hearts and free cell but the game still failed to start and free cell had an error Failed to create 3d device.
I have tried using old CCC verions 11.3 and i have just installed 11.6 (with no luck) and i have installed all updates for W7. i have contacted the help desk for FFxi and they said reinstall game (fail), Use uptodate drivers (fail) and to update firmwear internet hardweare but i dont have any ieda how to do that so help with would also be greatfull.
Lastly i build my own pc so would there be anything i should have done that would stop this from happening? i have put the spec below so i know its good enough for the game. Thank you for your help.

It's probably an issue between win7 and the older game. Make sure you make the exception or flat turn off the UAC. Make sure the game is running with admin rights, and run it under compatibility mode as well. Use whichever mode you last played the game on. (98, XP, etc.)
