GTX 580 on 550W power supply.

Would a gtx 580 run on a 550w max psu? Thanks :)

It is feasible that a 550W PSU could power a system with a 580. Depends on the PSU and the Amps available on the 12V rail. You'd need around 35A available at a minimum.

My system with 2 580s peaks right around 660W (drawing 780W from the wall).

That being said, my recommendation would be to run with at least a 650W Corsair, Seasonic, or XFX PSU. These supplies provide sufficient amps on the 12V rail.

you need a VERY good 550w psu. Like one of the higher end Antec, Corsair or seasonic models that usually deliver higher than their rated power. If the PSU says 550w MAX then it probably is a crap psu. Good psu's will rate their power "continuous" not "max". Please state the exact PSU you wish to try this on and the rest of your system specs.
