Most raw computing power for your money?

Hello,

I'm wondering what people would suggest for mb,cpu,power supply and ram to build a system that outputs the most MIPS/$. Think of it as someone in need of buying lots of these units to be used in a distributed computing cluster. What set up would get you the best performance for money for each unit?

Need a bit more info to go on - what's the primary use of these systems? What's the budget? Are you going to be using a central storage server or is each system going to have its own primary hard drive, or both?
