Winxp: Adding A Network Place Doesn't Work

Last response: in Wireless Networking
Share

When I open the My Networks folder on my laptop and try to add a network place (my desktop PC) I am confronted with the Add Network Place wizard. In the wizard it asks for the address of this network place and so I click Browse, hit the + and expand Entire Network > Microsoft Windows Network > Home, choose "Desktop" (my desktop PC), but every time I do this the program freezes and I have to shut it down with Ctrl+Alt+Delete.

Any ideas or suggestions as to why this might behappening and how I can actually add network places in this folder would be appreciated. Thanks.

I called D-Link tech support and asked about this problem. The tech guy walked me through changing the RTS Threshold and Fragmentation settings, disabling Super G, and changing the channel of the router to 11.

Then on the laptop I disabled Windows from managing my wireless connection, since the Dell TrueMobile card comes with a utility to handle that itself.

This fixed the connection issues I've been having and it also made it possible to Add A Network Place (my Desktop). Perhaps this will help someone else. Thanks.
