i have been given a Packard Bell IGO 2142 laptop with an option to buy...

all works fine apart from the DVD Rom which does not show up in device manager (XP).

bios reports that it is disabled, but does not seem to have an option to enable it.

any ideas? is the DVD Rom buggered?
