High performance laptop

I want to get a new laptop this year. I am looking for a laptop with relatively high performance (not for gaming, just for running engineering programs like eclipse, matlab, etc. ) but that is also small. I have a good laptop now, but it is huge and hard to carry around to all my classes. Any suggestions for what brands / hard drive size / processor / ram would be good for this?
