Stuttering in some games

I've often gotten stuttering in some gaming applications. Most notable is Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
I get stutters in most games when looking at a new area, and most of the time it doesn't occur often enough to annoy me, or maybe it just doesn't happen really at all.

Now you may suspect it to be attributed to me not having an adequate amount of texture memory. However, I also get extremely short stutters in Mass Effect 2, and that game has rather low res textures. I'm more inclined to think that my RAM or HDD is the problem. When I was building my computer, I made a mistake and bought one stick of 4gb of RAM. I know I should've bought a 2x2 setup of RAM, but could this really be it? I didn't think that 1333 mhz of RAM would cause a very noticeable amount of stuttering.

Thanks

More about stuttering games
  1. What resolution are you trying to run DE:HR at? I had a GTX550ti and it couldn't run DE:HR worth a darn at 1680x1050 with most settings on high. I had to back off to a lower resolution to make the game playable. It is quite demanding.
  2. I actually am playing HR at 1680x1050, as it's my moniter's max res. I think I get around 60-70 fps. However, I do run SSAO off. I'll go now to check if it still runs poorly at a lower res.
  3. I think I remember playing at fairly low res actually to test, problem still occured.

If you are averaging 60-70 FPS with DE:HR at 1680x1050, (1) you have better luck than I did, (2) better than the card is rated to do*, and (3) the stuttering isn't due to the framerate. When my frame rate dropped below 30fps, it would lag badly. Do you have your gfx driver updated?

Remember, I said I have SSAO off, which is a huge performance hog. With it on, I get around 30-40. Also note that I OC'd it (Although the stutter happens at different OCs).
I'm not really sure whats happening. I have my drivers updated and have deleted the old ones.
Anyway, thanks for the help. I'll snoop around the internets to see if I can find an answer.
