Radeon 6950 or GTX 570?

Help me decide! I game at 1920x1200 and I wanted to know what would be the better choice for me in terms of a graphics card. I am pretty much 100% decided that I want to upgrade to SLI/CF with my new system when I get it and when I have the money for the upgrade. However, im stuck between the 6950 (reference, so I can unlock it) and the GTX 570. Which should I choose? Thanks in advance for your help!

  1. Hi, personally i would go with the 6950, i got two of these, both flashed using sapphires 6970 bios. It was really easy to do and plus if you have a reference card, you have a backup bios with the switch. I flashed it, upped the voltage a bit and overclocked it slightly. Great cards.
  2. Both cards are fairly evenly matched, but, the 6950 is the better bargain, priced normally about $100 less than the GTX570...

This is unfortunately incorrect. The 570 beats the 6950 in MOST situations, except when a game is optimized for AMD, in which case the 6950 will slightly surpass the 570. However, unless you are playing at resolutions higher than 1980x1650, the extra horsepower of the 570 is reaelly unnecesary.

The 6950 offers the best performance per dollar of any card out now and will easily trumph just about any game out there at 1080p except the most ridiculous.
  4. i put a flux capacitor on my 6950 and now i own metro 2033, 400fps average, i do have the odd side effect where my computer goes back in time, but usally its back within the hour. all good
  5. I have 100 16 pin pci e power cables, the psu consists of two 9000w psu's and i have a direct cable running from a nuclear power plant.
  6. its did but i used my backup > 600000 hamsters on wheels connected to dynamo. BOOM

After looking at typical gaming benchmarks at 1920x1200, I agree the 570 wins more often, and, I agree that given the $75 price disparity, I'd still choose the 6950....
  8. HAHAHA lol funny, he tried to sli his 570 and a kettle, but he forgot that the kettle had water in it, water and 570's dont mix.
