So I've been trying to find a solution to this problem. I have 4GB's of memory installed but Windows indicates that only 3.00 GB is usable. I installed x64 version of Windows just so I can have access to that extra memory stick, so it's a little disappointing to not be able to use it.

Specs & Info:
Windows 8 Pro x64
4 x 1GB DDR2 memory installed
NVidia GeForce GT 440 Graphics Card (512Mb)

System:
HP Pavilion a6000n
Model: GC517AAR-ABA a6057c
SKU: GC517AAR#ABA
Intel (R) Core(TM)2 CPU 4300 @ 1.80 GHz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 5.17, 2007-04-20
Baseboard: ASUSTek Computer INC., Leonite 5.00

Things I've checked for already:

1. I've tried msconfig > boot > advanced options > uncheck maximum memory, didn't work

2. Resource Monitor tells me 1026MB of memory is 'Hardware Reserved'

3. This website tells me my motherboard can handle a maximum of 4.00GB's http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en...

4. No BIOS update available from HP website.

Any help is appreciated :)

I hate to tell you this but you're stuck in this situation. Blame HP and the way they specced their MB. 3 GB usable is the best you'll see out of that board.

Oh well. I guess it's all temporary until I conjure up enough money for my battlestation.
