For gaming you need a good graphics card, if you build a PC yourself you will get a better deal than either of the ones you specified. PC1 should be good for most games on medium to high settings and PC2 good for low to medium settings but if you upgraded the graphics card would be as good as PC1 for a bit less cash. If you build your own you should get something for under $500 with an i3 2100 (newer generation than PC1) and a 6850-6870 graphics card (alot better than the 5770).

PC2 old spec hardware and future proofing limited, go with PC1.

+1 with the i3-2100 and ATI 68xx.

Thnx for the answer. Why did you mention those HP pavillions? I'm looking for a good desktop.

Will I look for Phenom X6 1055?

For gaming don't get a Phenom x6

...what's wrong with the PII X6 for gaming? It'll auto shut down cores and turbo boost the fequency when required. At stock my 1090T 3.2 has higher 3D Marks than my 965 3.4.

Thats the point. It auto shut down cores!

Why waste money on more cores for it to shut down to perform the same if not worse performance than a X4. Since most games are mainly meant for dual cores with some optimized for tri and quad cores, six cores is pretty much irrelevant for now.

...so why not just have the extra cores? The money differential in just the CPU alone, and that's all we'd be talking about, is not that great. Games are only one software option...what about multi-tasking environments....your comments are a bit one dimensional IMO...now if you could unlock the two more cores on the quad and have the same functionailty as the X6 i'd grant you your point. Oh, and when you say performs worse than an X4, what do you mean by that? I certainly don't see that between my two setups and my THURBAN does BM faster than my DENEB, but in real world operation I couldn't tell which one I was sitting at without looking at device settings, they both have a max Ms VISTA 64 Ultimate rating of 5.9
