Building my first PC and I'm wondering if there are mobo brands that are more (or less) reliable. Or does it just depend model-to-model? Also, do you find the reviews at TigerDirect and NewEgg to be reliable? I know what specs I want but there are still a ton of boards that offer pretty much the same specs. I'm looking at socket AM3s and AM3+s. Thanks!

Two brands stand out for quality, They are Asus and Gigabyte. I don't even bother with other brands anymore, and I can safely say that I've avoided lots of headaches by doing so.

Gigabyte stands out a little over Asus when it comes to durability. Their motherboards are heftier and more solidly built.

As to reviews, you have to take each review with a grain of sand and ask yourself if the person really seems to know what they're talking about.

As for AM3+ boards, there are two mid-range boards from Gigabyte that seems to be the best overall package going these days:

If you're not CrossFiring, GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3
