hey guys,

CPU 3770k

which ram would you prefer to go for DOMINATOR PLATINUM or TRIDENT X and WHY ?

hoping for sincere comments.

thanks

Depends on the kit and more importantly the Frequency. The gains >DDR3-1600 are fractional at best and the cost-to-performance is VERY poor.

Example a G.SKILL Trident X Series F3-2800C11D-8GTXD is simply good for adding a 'hair' on a benchmark, BUT these kits will kick you in the head and require stupid voltages to remain stable.

Example a Corsair Dominator Platinum CMD8GX3M2A1600C8 is all about looks and the LEDs, the RAM IC's are perfectly fine and will cause no issues.

My sincere comment and advice is to make good RAM choices and if you're looking to improve performance then make ultra-fast RAM the last option after the best CPU, GPU(s), SSD, MOBO, Water ... etc.

thanks for your reply
actually i got trident x 2400 MHZ cl10q (4*4)GB 1.65V
CPU 3770k

i came across with few feed backs that it is not stable under overclocking and make your system restart loop n to go for platinum with low voltage i.e 1.5
is it correct ?

please guide through

Depending on you MOBO, I'd first try to use the XMP Profile setting. Sure if all you did was to set the DRAM Frequency -> DDR3-2400 I would be very surprised if it simply 'posted' without a failure(s).

ASUS
AI Overclock Tuner -> XMP and use Profile 1

ASRock
DRAM Timing Configuration /Enter
Load XMP Setting -> Profile 1

Gigabyte
Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P.) -> Profile 1

Then see if it posts, and if it fails then up the VCCIO -> 1.20v and if that fails then you need to post your MOBO and exact set.

i was about to get my hands on ASUS MAXIMUS V EXTREME

but my question is still there .. is TRIDENT x is unstable while overclocking ?
n what about difference in voltages ... 1.65 TRIDENT or 1.5 DOMINATOR PLATINUM ...................really cant understand. please explain

I asked, so lets assume the F3-2400C10Q-16GTX kit. Only use it on the listed MOBO's - http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=512 meaning there's no guarantees otherwise and even then I've seen these kits require a DRAM Voltage up to 1.75v with VCCIO/VTT Voltages @ 1.25v~1.30v which is simply CrAzY.

Folks looking at these kits either are stupid or they don't give a crap about their CPU -- many don't care.

A DRAM Voltage on either a Sandy or Ivy Bridge to a degree doesn't concern me, but 1.75v/1.35v does concern me. You'd be a fool to expect these kits to work and remain stable 7/24 on your system.

The only comparable kit is the Corsair CMD16GX3M4A2400C9 and it is also DRAM Voltage 1.65v lit, but you'll probably have a better chance are running them at Rated or close to Rated Frequency/CAS.

I recommend NEITHER to 99%+ of the users out there. Instead for the typical high-end user the fastest I recommend is DDR3-2133 (SB/SB-E/IB) which is considerably more stable; example the Corsair CMT16GX3M4X2133C9 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233230

I did answer your question, and since you asked before purchasing I consider that smart.

Either of those kits aren't meant for the average consumer, and those that know what they're buying know those high voltage kits which require higher than safe VCCIO voltages will degrade their CPU's.

Therefore, stay way from >DDR3-2133 kits.

The kit I linked, the Corsair CMT16GX3M4X2133C9, is the fastest and safe kit there is for 4x4GB.

Good Luck!
