Why does my graphics card not show up in device manager?

I bought a new nVidia 430GT from Newegg, and when it came, I inserted it
into the correct place and it worked. Then, I reinstalled Windows XP.
Now my card doesn't show up in device manager. The fan on the card is
spinning, which means it works and is not defective. I tried reinserting
the card, but to no avail. I only played fallout 3 for 1 hour while
using the card. I have good ventilation and a good fan. I have a Sony Vaio VGC-RB52 desktop running Windows XP Professional with all of the latest updates

And your monitor is still plugged into the card? Install the drivers for the card!

Reinstall the drivers. Perform a clean installation.

My monitor is plugged into my integrated card. I can't reinstall the drivers because the card isn't even detected. I don't have any other desktop to test the card.

I'm replacing this card. Thank you for your suggestions!

Looks like that is the only option except if you have a BIOS setting that defaults the onboard and disables the discrete.

Same thing happened to me, went through normall install, originally was getting driver detection error every time, now installing unupdated drivers first from disk, and it looks like it could be working, running W7 64 w/o march 13 updates.
