Hello, I have an AMD motherboard with a dual core processor. I also have an old Pentium 3 computer. Is it possible to put the AMD board in the old Pentium cvase? Will the power supply for the P III be the same as what is needed for the AMD MB? Thanks!

95% of the time it'll be ok, main problem will be if the pentium PSU is old enough to not be the same standard as the amd psu. If the plugs match you'll be fine, you may find that there is a 4 pin plug on the motherboard where there was an 8 pin on the other board, shouldn't cause any problems even if the 8 pin socket is only filled with 4 pins. Are the wattages similar?

Look up ATX standards on Wikipedia, you'll get a much better understanding as to why it all works together.

I Agree With 13thmonkey, ATX Has Been ATX Since Its Introduction Sometime In 1996 But You Might Need To Upgrade Your PSU.

I think it was just the P4's that needed a new psu with the 8pin plug, and even that was cross compatible.

Well, The P4 For Sure But AMD Started Doing The Same With Its Athlon XP And On As-Well, Its Required With The Increasing Wattage Of The Chips Since Then, However The 8-Pin Is Optional, Really Only Important For Overclockers And Server/Workstation Boards.

My Gigabyte motherboard manuals say that you need 8 pins with CPU's with TDP's of 130 watts or higher.
