PSU for 6850

In the last System Builders Marathon they used a 430W PSU to power a 6870 is that safe?? I know it had high amp rating on the 12V rail but still :o
I'm thinking of getting a 6850 whats the cheapest safest PSU you would use to power it in a system with a
Pentium E5700
1 mech hardrive
2x2GB DDR2 RAM
I not a complete newb I'm just looking for some advice I know there are loads of PSU calculators out there but I don't know how reliable they are :??:

  7. For 6850 CF 500W is enough. I might go a bit higher to be sure though. Here you can see the power consumption for yourself: http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-6850-6870-crossfirex-review/4
