Greetings all, I'm having a bit of an issue: Let me first describe my setup.

ATI 4870x2 connected with an HDMI cable to my Receiver (which in turn goes to my TV). The Cable obviously uses the DVI->HDMI connector that came with the card on my computer end.

I have the latest ATI HDMI drivers from RealTek installed.

My problem is this: I can't set 5.1 to default in Windows, I only get Stereo.

When I open up the Sound properties, I have RealTek HDMI Output set as the default device. When I open up configure, I only get Stereo as an option.

I have disabled onboard sound via BIOS and rebooted.

I'm running out of ideas - can anyone offer any suggestions?

Also, oddly enough - 5.1 seems to work on programs in which you can set that, but I'm running into games (In this case, The Witcher 2) which only use the default windows sound setup, and therefore I'm stuck with 2 channel.

I have the very same problem. I've disabled the onboard sound in BIOS, tried installing the Realtek ATI HDMI Audio driver, tried updating catalyst to the latest version, lots of reboots, etc.

My setup is similar but I have a 4250 connected to my Onkyo receiver directly HDMI to HDMI, without an adapter.
