Four pin fan header?

I was thinking of geting a GIGABYTE GA-Z77X motherboard.........but the MB has four pin headers....all the case fans I have are three.........are my fans backwards compatible or do I need different fans ?

More about four header

Yeah, they'll work, they just wouldn't be able to have the speed controlled automatically by the motherboard (which they wouldn't with a "normal" 3 pin connector anyway). The 4th pin just adds PWM capability so that a fan that has a 4 pin connector can be controlled automatically.

and you can control fan speed with a 3 pin fan header / 3 pin fan, you just can't do it with a 3 pin fan on a 4 pin header

Really? Well, I guess this is one of those times when my personal quote is put to use...

I haven't ever been able to control a 3 pin fan with anything other than software, unless that's what you mean (I was talking specifically about the motherboard being able to control it).
  4. Thanks for the heads up........I might buy one fan four pins for the rear exhaust fan......right?

If you want. There's not a really pressing need to though (assuming that the case already has a rear fan, in the first place).
