Which tuner card do you have? If its an old one that does not have a digital tuner in it you wont pick up any channels from an antenna as they are all digital in the US now. If its a digital tuner then you will be able to pick up all of the unencrypted channels in your area. If you want to get stuff from a satellite dish you need to use the box which partially defeats the purpose of the TV tuner card as you now need to use the box to change channels. If you are getting cable, then it will pick up all of the unencrypted channels, often times more than a normal TV with no box hooked up would.

If a channel is encrypted you wont be able to get it, you also wont be able to crack it once the signal is inside your computer either, it would involve a black box in the path which like the satellite box defeats half the purpose of the tuner card.

A digital Turner card will not allow you to watch scrambled or encrypted channels.

You can contact your cable/satellite provider to findout if they will rent you a card that can be used to watch the on your PC. The channels will be limited to whatever your subscription is for.

You can route the signal from the set top box to the PC after the signal is de-scrambled by it. You'll have it tune it using the box though.

The cable system is advanced It monitors location and activity.

The only box you could mod is the cable modem, In which you steal the devices chipset using a heat gun or COPY software.( In any event you most likely move location and get caught either way because the IP processes only work on the same regional server that it covers.) You have a 2 Day window In which you are connected. The location you need has to be Connected to pole and service provider. (However you can operate 2 boxes so People have traded in past online.) The IP remains same in speed and service.

In theory you could do this to any box Satillite etc. Replace some ones with a broken 1 and go to town in the region. How ever...I think this only clears server because of redundency on frozen processes that you can make several IP active in server processes for a few days.

But they still Find you send you a redirect you to a pamplet on piracy. :non:

You should ask the guys at the PC shop what he was doing.

The way you would watch cable pay channels on your PC or TV is to use a HDhomerun box and a cablecard(s)
