Would this rig be enough for battlefield 3?

Hello everyone,
I'm planning on pre-ordering bf3 for Pc...do you think this rig would be able to play it at 1080p high settings-ish??

Intel i7-930 OC 3.5GHz
Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon 5770 OC 940/1350 MHz
6GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600 RAM
OCZ Fatality 550w
1TB HDD

It plays bfbc2 1080p, 2xAA, 16xAF, high settings smoothly btw.

Thanks.

That's a ridiculous processor to get. It's more than $300! For $220, you could get a 2500K that would outperform that 930 in every way by far. With that extra $120, get a Radeon 6950 graphics card, and you'll have a great rig.

I think that they said (i've read somewhere on the net) that they've run it (the demo) with a GTX580 and still it wasn't enough to max it out, probably @ 1080p. So @ 1080p you may be able to run it at medium settings with around 30 fps with that PC.

http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=1164&game=Battlefield%203
As you may know E3 allowed us journos an early look at the latest BF3 trailers which focused on tank gameplay footage. Naturally we were excited and headed straight over to the EA booth to see what else we could learn. For example, we have heard mention of the suppressive fire effect. Where you get points for suppressing the enemy. Suppressed enemies will get a blurred screen and maybe other debuffs.

But more importantly I would like to highlight the chat we had with an EA spokesperson at E3 about the predicted BF3 system requirements.

Needless to say we had to push hard for any information and were faced with answers like 'Battefield 3 is still being optimized' and 'Its too early to say what the BF3 system requirements are going to be'

Unperturbed we tried a different approach. We asked, would we be able to run the game on a machine that could run Battlefield Bad Company 2

We were told

'I cant say for certain, but I would think so. Although the Frostbite 2 engine (Frostbite 2 is the new BF3 game engine) is capable of far more than its predecessor (Frostbite 1.5 is the engine used on Bad Company 2) we are pretty confident that it will still only need the same sort of hardware to get it to run. Maybe we will see a small drop in frame rate due to the extra power used by BF3 with the FB2 engine but hopefully nothing to worry about.'

So from this snippet of gold we are going to put together our predicted Battlefield 3 system requirements

Battlefield 3 Minimum System Requirements

OS: Windows Vista 64 bit

CPU: Core 2 Duo E4500 2.2Ghz or Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+

RAM: 2 GB

GFX: GeForce GT 240 or Radeon HD 5570

DX: 10

HDD: 15 GB

Battlefield 3 Recommended System Requirements

CPU: Core 2 Duo E8300 2.83Ghz or Phenom II X2 555

RAM: 4 GB

GFX: GeForce GTS 250 or Radeon HD 4830

GFX RAM: 512MB

DX: 11

Battlefield 3 Ultra System Requirements

CPU: Core i5-760 Quad 2.8GHz or Phenom II X4 965

RAM: 4 GB

GFX: GeForce GTX 460 or Radeon HD 5850

GFX RAM: 1GB

Bare in mind that these are our predicted BF3 system requirements and we will update with more concrete information as soon as they are available.

If you are looking to purchase a new machine specifically to run BF3 at its maximum settings we strongly advise that you do not do so until the official system requirements are released and we have published them here.

It will probably take only a gtx 460 to max it out

Thanks for the heads-up :)

BTW @ greghome i think that the guys at EA and DICE are not that kind of people and they surley have gotten a good CPU to be paired with that GPU ;)

ROFL

Reading comprehension is a wonderful thing.

I read that the recommended specs for "ultra settings" was a HD5850 or equivelent. So a 5770 should be good for high settings.

Yeah I've already built this (way before sandy bridge came out and I do not need an upgrade there) :D

dx 11 is enabled by default. If I were you I would switch to dx 10 mode as it gives greater performance and has similar image quality. To force dx 10 mode.Just go in my documents-BFBC2-Open settings.ini with notepad and in place of dxversion=auto type dxversion=10 .Save the file and you are done.

Asus p6t vanilla (where i have noticed that the pci-e slots are VERY close together, so I don't really like the idea of crossfire right now :/

I just did a fraps benchmark:
BFBC2 DX11 (forced)
Everything on high (which is the highest on bfbc2)
1xMSAA, 16xAF
HBAO on, vsync on
Min: 31, Max: 63 (?), Avg: 54.933
I benchmarked during a squad deathmatch on isla inocentes for 5 minutes.
The 31 minimum is probably when I stepped on an anti tank mine

What resoultion is your monitor?

You probably got 31 FPS from smoke/fire like an explosion.

I'm surprised your getting 55 fps with a 5770.I guess BFBC2 is more CPU demanding than GPU.With my 6870 I can only maintain 55-60 fps with everything on high expect for AF/AA but I have a phenom ii x4 @ 3.8ghz.Your i7 defnitly powers thru my phenom.

Its 22 inch 1920x1080p monitor...yeah the CPU is more important for bfbc2 I can tell cause it gets warmer than on any other game and the gpu is cooler than on any other game...hoping bf3 will be the same lol

Hopefully.Don't know exactly what their going to be doing to the game since their making it for both Platform and PC.

Back to your original question.I would say get another 5770 for crossfire. It seems much cheaper to just get another 5770 than to get another new card.Espically if your already close to maxing out BFBC2.

EDIT: Actually just remeberd your mobo is kinda tight for a crossfire. Then I'd suggest saving for a 6950.

I'll decide after I get bf3, if I have problems with framerate (I don't think I will because I do have crysis and I find that I get 35 fps @1920x1080 with mostly very high, some high, settings and no AA) I'll see about either crossfiring or a 6950 like you suggested :)

I prefer anti aliasing instead of HBAO.Can't even notice the effect when I am running around trying to shoot everyone.I turn on 16XAA and 16XAF everything high HBAO off and get around 50-60 fps average on my i7 870 and gtx 275
considering my fps I don't see how bf3 can be that difficult to max ot.As long as I can hold my fps over 30 I am good
