Hi what hardware and software (windows or linux) can i use to backup files on a remote location to a server(where i am).

the plan is to do backups for my work so that it can be safe and secure. but remember its not on the same network, the backups will be done over the internet.

Thanks
Jurgens

set up a vpn.

for example, i back up my computer to my parents and backup my parents to mine, giving us both offsite backup protection. i use hamachi, both computers see the other just like they were on the same lan. from there you can take your pick of any number of backup/syncing software to copy files over as they change, i use syncback.

i can't say how secure hamachi really is, but it doesn't bridge networks. only machines that have hamachi can access the hamachi vpn, and even then you can easily configure who has access to which network shares.

for example, i have several computers on my home lan, but only my server has hamachi on it. only the server can access my parents pc, everything else on my lan cannot. same goes other way round, my parents pc can only access my server, nothing else. and even if they knew how to find my server on the vpn they would still only have access to their own backup data on it, nothing else.

ah oaky good. but what i did, i made my own FTP server (file zilla) and then i use the program (cobian Backup 10) on the client site. I created users on the FTP server and then let the backup program back to that spesific user's folder.

also work good without any cost.
