Hi,

I will get a new GPU but can't decide between the two:
XFX HD 6950 XXX 1GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150527&cm_re=xfx_hd_6950-_-14-150-527-_-Product

Sapphire HD 6950 Dirt3 Edition 2GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102945&cm_re=sapphire_hd_6950-_-14-102-945-_-Product

XFX has a great overclocking performance (says in some of the reviews) but Sapphire has the bigger memory. Right now I use single display with resolution of 1920x1200 but I might buy a second display in the future and most probably, I will do overclocking for some hardcore games. Silence of the card is important for me.

Here are some more information about what I want.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: 2 weeks

USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming [hardcore games like Crysis, home theater/watching movies

CURRENT POWER SUPPLY: Corsair AX750 750W PSU

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS: CPU: Intel i5 2500K, MoBo: AsRock P67 Extreme4 B3, memory: 8GB G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3-1333 DIMM CL7, case: Coolermaster HAF 922

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: www.mindfactory.de, www.idealo.de COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Germany

OVERCLOCKING: Yes SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Maybe

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1920x1200

Is there a big difference between the two? Which one has a better performance? Unfortunately I couldn't find any direct comparison between the two and hopefully some of you could help.

Cheers,
cayt

If you plan on using eyefinity (3 monitors) I would get the 2GB version, if not... it doesn't really matter.

Even if you have 2 monitors and you play in one while you watch a movie or surf the internet in the other the 1GB will hold just fine for that, if you plan on adding a 3rd monitor and play on them then the 2GB will be better for that.

So the eyefinity is just for 3 monitors, not up to 3 monitors. Isn't it possible to play at 2 displays at a time? Does it have to be 3 monitors only?

It could work on two monitors, but then what game would you play when the middle of the screen would be between the two monitors?, works best with 3 monitors, but I guess you could make it run with 2.

Yeah I don't really see that being possible :p Imagine playing a first person shooter and the cross hair would be between the two bezels of the screens! Technically it would probably work, just in practice you'd be better off using one screen, and just using the second for browsing, movies etc.
