Maximum Memory for my chipset?

Hello, I have an optiplex gx280 (yes i know, sort of old haha) with what I believe to be the Intel 915G Chipset. Everywhere on the official specs, the maximum Ram is only 4 gb, however, sporadically I'll find threads saying that with 64-bit this chipset can actually accomodate 8gb (2gb per slot). I have the desktop version. Before I go off and buy either 4 x 1 gb of ram or 4 x 2 gb or ram, is the 8gb compatible? Thanks.

I have it too. It's 4 GB tops.
  2. The safer bet would be to just assume that the 4 GB is max.

That being said, if you know someone that has 4x 2GBs, I would try to get them to let you borrow it.

Thats a good idea, but the thing is the RAM seems to be very picky... Non-ECC and all those older compatibilty problems!
