Hello. I was just wondering should i go with the 6770 or the 6790. My main goal is to run skyrim on medium to high settings, And crysis and crysis 2. my cpu will iether be a amd phenom 4X 955 or the 6 core amd cpu (i cant decide). Just asking for opinion's :bounce:. Oh and if i have a OEM moniter, can i still hook it up to a new gpu such as the 6790 ?

Solution
The 6790 is faster. As for the 6770, it's the same as the 5770. As for the AMD CPU I say just go with the quad core for now. Most games don't make use of more than four threads at the moment and with bulldozer soon to arrive it doesn't make sense to spend the extra money on the X6 unless you have an application other than gaming that will make use of the extra two cores now. If you're building a new system, get an AM3+ board so that you're ready for bulldozer latter on.

As Timop said, the 6850 is the better option, and is very close in price to the 6790, though the 6790 is still a very good option for medium to high settings.

If your pc is for gaming only, I'd consider the i3 2100 instead of a phenom, it is stronger in gaming, and is cheaper than the x6.

Can't say I've heard of an OEM monitor, but I'm assuming that just means it doesn't come with cables, check which connectors it has, if it has DVI/HDMI/Display port, you're good.

 Ok so thats a no for the 6 core cause most game engines dont use the extra 2 cores, but the duel core i-3 is better than the phenom II 4X quad? :pt1cable:. And I have the am3 board already. Btw can you accuratly guess the combined watt amount for the II 4X and the 6790 together, cause i am getting a 650 watt psu and i dont know if that's enough

K so ive made up my mind...kinda  i am going to get a 6790 and a 700 watt psu. But im also kinda agitated ab out not getting the better but more expensive Corsair CMPSU-650TXV2, which is 650 watts but its too pricy in my opinion. What do you guy's think ?

What is your budget? Resolution?

Get the amd 955 and use the $$ you save on a better GPU and PSU.

I would really recommend you wait a month of so until BD comes out. The price should drop lower, plus you will have an idea what BD offers per $$. Intel CPUs may dip in price as well.

Ah well, my resolution will be iether 1024 by 80 or w/e, or 1440X900. That's reletivly low right ? And I am making my computer on ibuypower, im going to have a 6770 (1Gig) phenom quad core 955 and CMPSU-650TXV2. Because if i get the extra wattage I have a crossfire am3 board so I can upgrade to the 6850 later on. The system i have in mind will be i think 775 $.

Ah, iBuy power. Blah. Well, see if you can't get an AM3+ board in there. It will give you the option to upgrade it to Bulldozer latter on. A single 6770 is more than enough for 1440x900. As for adding a second card you really don't need more than a good 500W PSU with two PCI-E connectors. Keep in mind the 6770 is a re-branded 5770

Since legit reviews used furmark to stress the cards, which is an unrealistic worst case scenario, it's unlikely you ever get to that peak power consumption during any kind of gameplay.

lol what's wrong with ibuypower  oh so the 1440X900 res, will the 6770 be able to max...or at least high/max crysis 1 and two and empire total war and shogun two total war ? I know my cpu can but...idk bout the gpu :kaola:. Skyrim will be a little jumpy but ill take it down to an even lower res...i CANNOT see the differance between 1440X900 and 4096X1440 :pt1cable:
