The win7 start menu?

Can I get the classic look (Pre xp) the new look is not agreeing with me.

I felt that way at first, but it seems fine to me now, particularly after I:

- set the "Number of recent programs to display" to the maximum value so that the menu filled up more of the screen and I didn't have to scroll through it, and

- pinned the programs I use most often to it so that they were readily available without having to burrow down into subfolders in the menu.

I suggest you give these things a try.
