Crosshair Mobo having memory problems.

Old Mobo crashed on me, so I upgraded to the ASUS Crosshair V, I had 8GB (2x4 sticks DDR3) of GSkills and since I was at Fry's already I decided to get 8 more Gigs of memory (2x4 sticks again, 1600 ddr3).

Originally I didn't think to notice but was looking at computer-> Properties and saw an odd read out on memory, 12 GB installed, 7.68 GB in use. . . I immediately assumed I had seated incorrectly and just swapped the possitions around and now its reading simply 8 installed.

Anyone have some ideas on this?

MOBO: ASUS Crosshair 5
RAM: 2x4GB sticks MEM 4Gx2|G.SKILL F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL and
2x4GB sticks Vengeance® — 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 Memory Kit (CMZ4GX3M2A1600C9B
vid card: AMD HD 6870
CPU: Phenom x6 1100T black edition thuban
Powersupply: Coolermaster silent 80+ Gold 800 watt

Forgot to mention running a Windows 7 Ultimate OS, so its not the limiting factor from what I can see. Also disabled my Hibernate so its not stealing RAM for that.
