Hello,

When I drag and drop jpegs into Nikon Capture Editor the photo is
considerably different than the source (as determined by Windows My
Pictures). It is then obviously difficult to edit on an inaccurate
source.

I also use PhotoImpact and they importing is accurate.

Can anyone advise me on how to make the correct changes so I can get an
accurate transfer?

Thanks!

NCE is a color managed application, is PI? Is your monitor calibrated, so
you have a proper ICM profile for it? Suggest you start with the color
management help file. Help => Contents => Nikon Capture 4 Editor: Options
=> The Color Management Tab. Also be sure you have the appropriate output
device icm chosen as well.

Thank you Ed for your reply. I admit my color management knowledge is
poor. I will delve into this a bit. If you know of any helpful links to
educate me I would appreciate it.

May I say I visited your site and your photos are remarkable. I would
be interested in knowing if your use special tone curves or custom
settings on your D70 for your photography.

Thanks,

What format are you shooting in and what Color Mode (p59 of the D70 manual)
have you set? You're not using Mode II Adobe RGB are you? There is a
firmware upgrade B1.03 that corrects an incorrect entry for the embedded
color space in JPGs taken in this mode.

What are the NC settings in the Color Management Tab?
Tools => Options => Color Management.

Thanks. No custom curves. I now mainly shoot raw, with all in camera
processing (tone, sharpening, etc.) set to none and process with Capture
and then PSP8 for final cropping, minor adjustments for brightnes/color,
noise filtering if done and usm.
