I intend to buy PIXMA MP497 http://www.canon.com.sg/personal/products/all-in-ones/i...

I want to use the wifi wireless function.

How do I check if my pc got wifi?

Can the printer communicate with a usb wifi adapter without a wireless router?

More about : wifi adapter router

Yes the printer can communicate with a usb wifi adapter without a wireless router as long as they share a communication protocal (ie - A/B/G or N) which shouldn't really be an issue.

edit - Device manager would list your installed network adapters.

You can read the printer manual to be sure, buy an N that is also a G and you should be good to go. N comes in 150, 300, and 450 speeds but I've never seen a usb over 300 not tha tyou would even need 150 for a printer.

I have a few 150 class N SMC units that work well but its not sold anymore. Pick a brand you like and make sure it has good reviews.
