Stuttering when streaming video

ive got a pretty old compaq pc in my room mainly just for a network bridge for my xbox but also been using it to stream iplayer/4od/etc. and all is fine. but today i moved to bt infinity and thought now i have 35Mbps connection i could stream HD content. the videos load ok but the playback stutters every couple of seconds. is it just a case of more ram and/or better video card?

amd sempron 3000+
756mb ddr ram
geforce fx 5200

been looking at video card upgrades on ebay and i can pick up a pretty big improvement for pennies if this will fix it?

Your processor and GPU aren't enough powerful to handle 1080p videos. You need to get a new PC.

^ concur, Also Your Lan controller, not sure what yours is but current ones are 10/100/1000 mbps. Also the "35 mbps" is a max and is often higher than real life.
