Advice on new card?

Hey, guys. I'm looking into a new card for my build, but I'm having a really tough time deciding. My budget is, at the VERY most $300 (before rebates, hopefully). I typically use Newegg and scour Slickdeals for any coupons, but if I'm not satisfied, I'll just go to my favorite vendors in the industrial district. Just a little on my needs... I play games like Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Dead Space, Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress, Metro 2033, etc. Some of these games can be demanding and I'd really like to have a card that runs DX11 and, at minimum, 1GB VRAM (btw, my screen is a 1920x1080 24", so I need me some performance). I'm open to any manufacturer, and have been contemplating SLI/XFire (never done this before, but I'm interested).

I've heard good things about AMD's 5000/6000 line, and Nvidia's 400/500 line. I've looked into them and have a strong feeling I might get a card from those lines. I'm not sure about the 5770, as it's been around for a little bit, but it seems like a solid and affordable card. Any advice?

PS My first post after lurking Tom's for years! :)

Take a look at cards from HD6850 (about half your budget) and up! What other hardware are you matching it with?

Yeah, I saw that card and it looked pretty promising. Interesting, I was just looking some benchmarks on that one!

Well, none of it is set in stone quite yet, but this is what I'm looking into:
i7 960 (might OC with the Noctua D14)
7200 RPM 1 or 1.5 TB HDD
3x4GB DDR3 @1333MHz

Haven't yet decided on the exact Mobo, but I'm looking into USB 3.0 mobos (yay!). Some are cheaper than I expected, too. Anyway, that's the gist of it. Thanks for the advice, btw. I think that card has held my gaze for a while, heh.

If this is for gaming I would suggest looking into LGA1155 I5 2500K beats all I7 9xx at gaming except the super expensive hexa cores!

Really? Wow, that's crazy! How so? I'll check out some benchmarks. Thanks for the advice. :)

Except I wanted to mention it's also for architectural rendering, which is a very CPU-intensive process, it seems. Should I still look into the i5 anyway?

3D rendering is a strong point with the LGA1366! But I7 2600K on LGA1155 handles it well though.

It's significantly cheaper... I'm gonna have to think hard about this one.
