voice chat with msn messenger

I have been trying to voice chat with my Sister. She can hear me just
fine but I can not hear her at all. We both have headsets with a mic. My
laptop and her laptop are new. We made sure that all volume was up and
nothing was muted but I still can not hear her. I read about voice chat
on line and it stated that you would need a headset and also a sound
card. I ran around everywhere yesterday to many places bestbuy and
circuit city and they tell me that this sound card is already built in.
I told them that my sister can hear me just fine but she can not hear
me. They said that the problem must be on her end not mine. I'm still
wondering about this so called sound card. Does anyway here know what
the problem could be?

First off,why are you useing msn messenger,its really designed for use
in msn explorer (a dial up ISP),get rid of it if you dont use msn explorer.
Windows messenger 4.7 is the most stable,if you use msn from IE or any
part of msn,go to search ar microsoft,type:Windows Messenger add in
This gets you use of all msn,like msn messenger w/o the install.Next,R.click
the speaker icon by the clock in task bar,select,open volume control,options,
advanced controls,select mic if its not showing up in volume control and chk
the box,adjust the slider.Also,in messenger,open tools,audio tuneing wizard.
Also add youre contact in messenger you might try the "instant message"
service first,just to get things going w/o the mic.

Hi Brenda,

You should not worry about the sound-card. Any new computer has a onboard sound card, if not a
add-on PCI card. I think you should ask you sister to check her mic and if it working properly or
not. One more suggestion...ask her to double click on the volume icon on the taskbar and click on
options >> properties. Select 'recording' and put a check next to MIC and click on OK. After this
ask her to put a check next to 'select' under microphone. In many cases, this solves most of the
problems.

ANDREW!!! What have I told you about staying away from Daddy's computer?!
MSN Messenger has nothing whatsoever to do with MSN Explorer, why on *EARTH*
would she want to get rid of it?! I've never used Windows Messenger - I've
been using MSN Messenger for years - and I don't use MSN Explorer - never
have, and never will.

The rest of your post is completely nonsensical. Why on earth would she need
to check if her mic is working when she knows it is as her sister can hear
her?!

Thanks you so much for all of your messages. Are you guys ready for
this? Well I told my sister to go to yahoo to see if it would work and
it sure did. It sounded just like we both were on our cell phones
talking. She is in New Hampshire and I'm in Norh Carolina and thank God
we can save our minutes now especially through the week. Boy the
computer has a mind of it's own right?
Who knows!
I've always liked yahoo messenger more anyway. It has a lot of cool
features.
