Delay write fail when starting up pc

Hello,
My mother's computer crashed earlier today, and although I have been able to restore most of the programs and can get online, there is a Delay-Write=Error pop-up every time we restart the system. Is the hard drive damaged? Do we need to replace, or is there an easier fix? Help!

try opening a command prompt and typing

chkdsk /f then press enter--say yes when it says disk in use do you want to schedule on next restart

then restart the pc

Before you do the check disk I'd recommend doing a backup of essential data first.

Doing the check disc might be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Good chance the drive is failing and will need replaced.
