That's a nice build.
And that's a good physX slave.
So, you're planning on ATi/AMD again ?

I thought about that and to be honest I'm still on the fence about it.
A kick-ass quad I think is good enough for me personally, for now.
I multi-task a little at home but not enough on one unit at a time to worry about the hexacores..

Isn't it too early to build bulldozer based system... hence bulldozer doesn't yet exist on market ?

youngster - it's about the motherboard (AM3+) which is out now.
the only thing we need to wait on is the processor.

and this is what my Bulldozer will look like so NO, it's not too early..

too bad you didnt post this earlier there was a great deal on 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1866 ram $60 for it + free 4GB SD card. ended yesterday. its 70 now. and no freebies

but that's all i would change about your build well i wouldn't do physx but i don't have a card laying around. and with out physx i would go with a 970 chipset board and save some cash.

I admire one's putting effort to make gamble out of building a PC. I follow news tightly and there is still no intel how BD will compete against SNB.

P.S. rotfl @ calling me youngster check my join date and yours I also read toms occasionally years back before registering account ...

@ farrengottu 1333 ram is as good and for the half of price :P

doesn't matter, I'm going to do a Bulldozer / Zambezi anyways.
and when Intel drops new tech again it will be time to then upgrade my current i5-760 to the SBE or Ivy..
nothing wrong with having both..

I know you did not mean for that to sound funny but it made me laugh anyways("one unit at a time" ). I still think of a bulldozer module as 1 big core(thanks to all the shared resources) or 2 average cores(thanks to the shared resources) I'd say wait for benchmarks but i would still go 6 core if its priced at the 2500K price.

My future bulldozer build
8170P or 6110
Sapphire flex Amd Radeon 6950
Asus Sabertooth Am3+ Board(wow 200$ for a mobo yeah i know a waste)
8GB of DDR 1333 ram
2 320Gb hard drives
Maybe a future 100$ SSD?
All in a Coolermaster Elite 430 case.

I have an Elite 430 right now housing my i5-760 rig..
looks and fits, holds everything quite well..
Sabertooth is not worth it in my opinion, does look freaky though..

I wish i got this instead i could of said 90$ because when i got the sabertooth it was 199.99$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813157262 109.99$

Or go more extreme and get this for the same price as my sabertooth

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813157267 199.99$

I love the coolermaster Elite 430 i got it because it could fit a 5970 in it and it had great air flow and it cost only 50$ great deal. I have a 6950 in it and i still could have a bigger card. My old case was the popular Antec 300 but it was also the main reason why i had to get a 6850 over my current card because it could not fit inside it.

a good 650w psu should run 2 6870's
you should really invest in a decent psu

Other than the price difference, any reason you are going for the Gigabyte 990FX over the ASUS Crosshair V? I'm kinda tied to it since I already have an AMD system sporting the following hardware:

Coolermaster CM 830 Stacker Case (oldie but goodie)
AMD 1090T
ASUS Crosshair IV mobo
8G GSkill Trident Ram
Corsair 1000 watt psu
XFX 6950 2G Dual BIOS 2x crossfire
Corsiar H50 CPU cooler
8x 120mm blue led fans

I want to keep the color scheme red and black since my video cards, ram and motherboard are all the same color. That hasn't happened for me very often so I kinda like it and want to stick to it.

I have my Crosshair IV mobo on ebay now for sale so hopefully when it sells, I'll pull the trigger on the Crosshair V mobo. I really want to play with that UEFI BIOS. =P

no.
I just have my house networked and everyone has their own unit.
I have two in my space plus notebook, then the ms has one (her space) and my about to be 6 year old son has one in his room.
the addition of the Bulldozer will then force a trickle down affect throughout the house and then over to family.
I just like to have one each (AMD/Intel) and they be able to do whatever I want (powerful enough)..

son's unit not listed (remember he's 6):
athlon x2 7850 (2.8GHz)
foxconn AM2+ nForce 630
4GB DDR2 800MHz
8800GT
80GB SATA HDD
17" LCD

mate, longtime no hear from, doing well.?
I actually just didn't want to spend for the Crosshair, correct.
and this is my first Gigabyte board, the pci layout suits me well.
I still prefer ASUS for AMD motherboards I can't lie about that, never tried ASUS with Intel board..
what do you have your 1090T clocked @.?

Hi Mal, it has been a while. I'm doing well and have a new baby girl that rocks my gaming world, lol. I'm working on my system for only future use as I have so many things going on I barely get to come here like I used to. That will change in a few months as she gets easier to take care of and the wifey doesn't need me to help her hand and foot.

That Gigabyte board looks great. If I wasn't married to the red and black color scheme, I'd go for that board as well. Great value and quality.

My 1090T is only @ 3.8, it can go higher but I don't really need it atm. After I get the new mobo I'll get serious about tweaking it out. I may even get a real water cooling setup instead of the H50. If the BD performs as I'd like to see it, the 1090T will go in my media center rig in the basement and I'll retire the 940 in that rig.

Too many ideas, not enough time... for me at least, lol!

Reply to englandr753

I think I remember you mentioning a while back about your little girl, congrats bro.
my little girl is 3 1/2 and she trips me out daily boss of the house.
she'll be getting a unit soon too... LOL

the motherboards to me are about the layout as much as the other features.
and gigabyte loaded this one up nicely.
can't wait.
I could throw my 955BE in there and play but not ready yet to re-configure all the systems with changes..
I still remember my 940BE, that ugly thing... :hello:

3.8GHz is solid on that 1090T, I bet it brings good performance @ that clock.
ideas, yes.
time, space and money; not enough, not enough and never enough..:D

Bulldozer is estimated @/around 30% increase from Deneb and Deneb is a harder hitter (per core) than Thuban.
so let's see if it's true or not.

This is my current rig:

http://i581.photobucket.com/albums [...] 53/003.jpg

I'm like you, I have 4 other systems and a laptop. One for my media rig in my living room, 1 powering my 10' projection setup in my basement, 1 in my wifeys office, one in my office and the lappy sits on the sideline waiting for someone to use it that wants to sneak off and hide from everyone else. I also have another spare system that I just sold to a buddy of mine. That will be used to do some of the upgrades such as an SSD.

I think I can fit one of these in the base of my case:

I'd like the 480 but I'm not so sure that will fit...

Does the second 6950 get enough cooling. They're pretty cramped in there.

That's great to hear about your little girl. I have a little boy that's almost 2 1/2, he was born 2 months premature but looking at him you'd never know it. He knows all of his ABC's, can count to 20, knows tons of colors and can tell you whats on almost every flash card you put in front of him. I'm proud of that little guy, especially when I come home and I hear the patter of his feet on the hardwood floor yelling, "daddy, daddy, daddy!" Until you have children, you never knew how much you needed that missing puzzle in your life.

You'll have to keep us posted on this build as you progress. I'll do the same. I have this thread marked.

Great talking to you again bro!

Great talking to you again bro!

that's the coolest when they yell for daddy...
they go daddy, daddy, daddy!!! and I go what, what, what!!!.... :bounce:

It actually does cool fine. I have to ramp up the fan slightly but it doesn't bother me at all.

Just an FYI for those that are comparing the MSI Frozer to the XFX, the XFX like mine cools better at max temps. I built this rig for a guy that wanted a bitcoin mining rig. I put the Antec 1200 watt psu in there as he insisted on that one for 3x 6990's. We couldn't get the temps down enough for the 3rd 6950 to stay in there. I was thinking maybe the middle card was overheating but after checking, the card in the top pci-ex slot was overheating. I'm guessing as it must've been due to the 16x bandwidth piping a heavier workload to that card. The other 2 should've been @ 8x.

This is that rig:

I put my 6950 and ramped up the fan to 100%, it was nearly 10*F cooler but still was pushing the limits a little closer than I like for 24hr operation.

He was running 3x 6950 msi frozer cards until he could round up the 6990's but I think that idea fell through when we couldn't control the temps on that one card.

As far as the 480, this is the one. Its huge:

3 X 6990s ?
The sound and heat produced also could be a bit too much ! :D
