just bought a new mobo and cpu and installed it last night. When ever i run cpuz it shows up as a 8130p shows a max TDP of 211 and keeps overclocking its self to 4.1 back down to 3.4....WTF is going on?
you are not crazy.
the speed fluctuations you're noticing might be amd's turbo core at work.
amd's listed tdp for fx 8120 is 125 w iirc. you can try using cpuid's cpu-z and hwmonitor to monitor your system.

I did use CPU-Z but it was not updated lol. The update fixed the TDP and naming issue but the thing still goes from 3.4 to 4.1 over and over again. I thought the 8120 had 3.1 and 4.0 turbo? Anyway the lesson I learned here tonight is always update your monitoring programs or you might *** your pants thinking that you are burning up a new CPU.
No. Its means I had a old version of CPU-Z (1.57), and bulldozer was not out when they put the code in for the name. 8130p was the old name. It also said it was an ES chip, which it isn't. I don't know what they will launch but I'm pretty sure the mixup was my doing not a secret AMD chip that i some how got early. As cool as that sounds, I'm not that lucky.
