I have a Asus M5A78L/USB3 motherboard and want to buy some 1600 mhz memory because at the moment i have 600 mhz memory. I have noticed on my motherboard spec sheet it says

Memory
4 x DIMM, Max. 16GB, DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1866(O.C.)/1800(O.C.)/1600(O.C.)/1333/1066 Hz ECC, Non-ECC Memory
Dual Channel Memory Architecture

and then it says at the bottom of the page

Memory
Max Supported Memory 16 GB
Supported RAM Technology DDR3 SDRAM
Supported RAM Speed 1333 MHz, 1066 MHz
Supported RAM Integrity Check Non-ECC, ECC
RAM Features Dual channel memory architecture

Just wondering if my motherboard can handle 1600 mhz speed ? Because i don;t get the first bit the 2000 then 1866 etc then it says Supported RAM Speed 1333 MHz.

Could some one please explain ?? because at the moment i have 600 mhz memory and get a lot of lag and would like to upgrade to 1600 but seems like my motherboard will not support it ??

The reason it says only 1333 and 1066 are supported is because you would have to OC(Overclock) to reach 1600/1800/1866/or 2000 speeds. So in short yes it will support it but it will only run @ 1333 until you enable the XMP profile in the BIOS for your memory, which most mem sticks now-a-days have.

so would i have to buy 1333 and the overclock to 1600/1800/1866/or 2000 or could i go out and buy memory with 1600 default speed ? Im guessing id have to buy 1333 and then overclock ?

ram timings ?? Im guessing diffrent ram has different ram timings ? So i would have to find out the ram timings be for i buy the memory and then set it in the bios ?And im guessing if i do it wrong ???

1866 ?? So that would set it to 1866 mhz or ? At the moment im on 600 mhz so 1866 would be miles better than what i have now. I have a amd fx 8120 8 core so new memory would be great. Just thought my board sucks and wouldn't support high tech memory

will fit to any memory ?? Im about to do a water cooling loop in a few weeks and i have 2 triple rads and a double rad so want to try and water cool has much has i can and not waste rads -_- i wanted to get the Memory water cooling which sits on top of the Memory and sticks to the Memory but found out the ones that lay on top and stick to the Memory are only for the Corsair Memory so was looking at the link above to water cool my Memory. Would it fit to any Memory ?
