960 vs Bulldozer

I used to run a 960 in my second system and sold it to jump into Bulldozer. I'm looking into the six cores first but could easily go for an eight cores. Anyone with any experience as to how the 960 fares againts those two head to head? The system is mostly a gaming system.

  1. 960T or I7 960?
Bulldozer has nothing to bring to the table for gaming!
  2. I was talking the Phenom 960 first edition. I believe it had a TDP of 140 . Now is down to 125. I believe you answered my question already. Thanks. I'm looking for high performance gaming under $200.
  3. 2500k can be had for $200 or less if ya shop around .... I bought a bunch over last few months at $205 but usually got $20 off in MoBo combo.

    For example

    $225 w/ $25 combo discount is a net of $200

however w/ holidays approaching, it's getting tougher

Phenom 9600! If your board supports any of the Phenom II X4 9xxBE that would be the route I would take.

+1. but if you need a new motherboard, you may as well go intel for gaming.
  6. http://www.guru3d.com/article/amd-fx-8150--8120-6100-and-4100-performance-review/1 That is the only review I know of that includes the FX 6100, the FX processors for the most part are slower than Phenom II, and an I5/I7 will destroy them in gaming. Take a look at any FX 8150 review and you'll see despite being the best processor AMD has and clocked higher, it looses to the I5 2500.
