I've had a similar problem with my laptop. When I installed Win7, the touchpad wouldn't work to scroll down on the far right side. When I got the drivers installed, the pad now works, but the computer defaults to a lower resolution every time I reboot. Have to go into display and raise it back up. For me, it's worth it to get the touchpad functionality (it doesn't do it if I uninstall). It'll be like trying to find a needle in a haystack though for you. Make sure all of your drivers are up to date too.
