Microsoft wireless mouse 1000

I purchased the microsoft wireless keyboard 800 and wireless mouse 1000. It worked great for a week or two on my new Dell Inspiron then worked on and off and now I keep getting message"USB device not recognized" - very frustrating - any solutions?
