Yes, it is.

But the more important question is if your Power Supply can support it. What is your power supply ( brand & model )?

Another issue will be your CPU and monitor. The M2N will be a socket AM2 board. Odds are that you have a low end dual core in it, or perhaps an original Phenom 1 quad. These are low end CPUs and not up for running todays games at the resolutions he 6970 is meant for.

Speaking of which, what resolution is this for? 1080 is the lowest I would consider. The 6970 is meant more for 1600 or tri monitor gaming. If you're using an 1440x900 or 1680x1050 monitor, consider getting the 6870.

yes 1440x900 75 refresh rate w/ AMD Phenom™ II X4 850 at 3.3 ghz...

CPU is better then I thought, but its pointless to put a 6970 in there for 1440x900. You need a monitor upgrade to run that card.

ohh i see.. which should I get 5870 or 6870? coz some one said 5870 is better than 6870..

The 5870 is a bit faster, but again with a resolution that small both are semi pointless. The 6870 is slightly overkill even. (yes, even though I suggested it earlier.) It's fine card, and should last you a long time. I'm using a 5750 @ 1680x1050. I play older games however so I'm good.

Yes the 5870 is slighly better ,but you will be hard pressed to find new ones from any of the stores.

Don't you have any plan about getting a bigger & higher resolution monitor soon? One that have 1920x1080?

That's a good idea. The video card & Monitor has to be decided together. Or you might even consider to build Eyefinity setup too... in which case, the story totally change.

hmm. so if my max res is 1440 x 900. i won't be able to use 6970? or i just won't be able to use it on it's maximum capability?

and what does he/you mean by over kill?

It means your monitor can only show 60FPS. At a resolution that small, a 5770 or 6850 will be able to do that. Why spend twice as much as you need to? If you play really demanding games like Crysis or Metro you might want to go as high as the 6870, but there is little point in getting the 6970 if you only play at 1440x900.

For in a month or two i would be able to buy a new monitor w/ high res. so if i can use the 6970 at 1440 x 900 for the mean time i would buy 6970 if not i'd go for 6870.. so can i use 6970 at 1440 x 900 max monitor res..?

^Yes, you can. Though even at 1920x1080, the 6970 is still overkill. An HD6770 up to 6870 ( includes everything in between ) should be great for 1920x1080.
