Hello and Welcome.

I have created a Poll to see what is the most popular Graphics Card for playing Battlefield 3. I would also like to note that this thread is not just about Battlefield 3, so please feel free to add your comment as to which GPU you have to play what game. The Poll will close on the 1st November so it gives people time to reply back on the performance of thier card and so on. Thank you for everyone reading this and a bigger thank you for for participating!

Also because of the limitations of the Poll answers I wont be able to be as precise with what GPU so please put a comment as to which exact Model you have.

Is there any other games that people are waiting for?
July 4, 2011 2:43:09 PM

Well, I guess I'm gonna see how my current system handles it.

2500k - 4.4ghz
AMD ASUS Direct CU 6870 OC'd 1000/1200
8GB HyperX Ram

I'll be running at 1920x1080.....so i'll try the game on the highest settings at first, review my fps, and lower settings until i reach my sweet spot between graphics and gameplay. Hopefully my 6870 will have mostly higher settings with maybe 2-4 AA.

Other games I'm waiting for....Skyrim. I just know it's going to provide so many hours of fun for myself.......just like Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3 did.

I'm happy to see L.A. Noire coming to PC, looks like an interesting game, and I'll no doubt buy Football Manager 2012 when it comes out as I've put in over 500 hours of the 2011 version.

I was anticipating MW3, but my interest has cooled a bit recently.

Surprisingly all the games you mentioned are either ones I really want or ones that ive played a lot of, especially Footy Manager 2011. Always been a fan of the series but i thought 2011 was a just the same as 2010 with a few minor adjustments. Skyrim as well! I really cannot wait for this game!

I will buy my computer in 10-ish days, this is the setup:

I am planning on running comp that is fit to fully support a 120hz screen for the smoothness. For that I will buy the BenQ monitor.

- 2x ASUS 6950 DCII 2GB for the coolness, silence and absolute rediculous OCability
- Intel 2500k cooled by a Noctua NH-D14 - again coolness, silence and big e-peen
- Asus p8z68 Deluxe for the exceptional crossfire performance, lowest Watt usage of all cards in the series
- 4GB Dual CHannel G.Skill RipJawX (2133MHz CL9 or 1600MHz CL6) - still not sure on this one - great performance and e-peen
AX850 PSU for the silence and performance
HAF-X Case for the cooling and big size
And I am thinking of whether to buy a mechanical keyboard now or wait for a TT eSport mech keyboard with macros..
July 4, 2011 7:28:11 PM

that will be a great computer. how much will all that cost you? if you dont mind me asking.

By the looks on the specs for this game I would go for a 6950 2gb or even a 6870, but if Battlefield 3 has Physx then you may want to invest in a Nvidia card...... Thats if you want all the bells and trimmings!

there is no way bf3 has nvidia physx when thier own physics engine is quite spectacular.BTW can you estimate what settings I can run bf3 on with my oced 275 and i7-870?My resolution is 1680X1050 :)

whats your performance in crysis maxed with your current card?
July 11, 2011 12:04:56 PM

I have a gtx 570 and i can play crysis on max and get on average 52 FPS which is awsome. same with Crysis 2 DX11 as well. Im sure most people will be able to play battlefield 3 on low or medium which is good. But to max it im sure a gtx 570 or 560ti should max it with reasonable FPS. (HOPEFULLY lol)

I didnt know Bf3 had it's only physics engine, which is good because I hate the idea of Nvidia Physx!!

With a 275 I would say the settings would be high at that res and that would only be Direct x9 because BF3 will only support Dx9 & 11....... Theres no room for Dx10 anymore!

normally my average ranging from mid 20s to mid 30s in game (depends on area). with the time benchmark i got 28FPS on max setting no AA

lol when mentioning in game physics people always relate it to nvidia PhysX :D . honestly i do not know what exact physics engine implemented in BF 3 because i only know havok and physx. as for bullet the only program officially known to me use the engine is 3Dmark11.

btw i heard before the game was build primarily for DX10/11. with BFBC2 Dice make the game available for DX9/10/11. so i'm more incline to believe for BF3 it is more reasonable for them to make the game DX10/11 only rather than following other games lead releasing DX9/11 leaving people with DX10 capability in the dust.

Yeah renz496 your right about the Direct10/11 thing. I swear I read that they will be bypassing Dx10 and only use Dx9/11!

Apologies for my mistake!

lol. it would be pain for the dev to make the game for all DX version from the first one to the latest one :D .

but in that way the pc hardware can be fully utilised. For example, crysis 2 is dx 9 and dx 11.If it supported dx 10 I could have gotten improved visuals than dx 9.Not that I hate dx 11,but I can see minimum difference in crysis 2 with it on
July 11, 2011 3:24:35 PM

I dont no celpas.... I noticed a large difference beween Dx9 & Dx11 on Crysis 2.

that's why i don't like it when the dev only code the game for dx9 and dx11 only. to me when they do so it's like they add dx11 just to attract pc gamers to buy their games for the pc platform and not really because they want to fully utilize all the new features that dx11 should add to the game. people with dx10 cards are forced to run the game with in dx9 since the dev doesn't want to spend more resource to code the game in dx10.

i can only see the real difference between DX9 and DX11 ic crysis 2 if i set it on ultra. if i lower down to extreme (dx11) they look totally the same to me.

My system is qx9650 running at 3.7ghz, fsb around 1.6ghz and gtx295 .ddr3
8GB ,w7 64bit . Do you think I can run bf3 maxed out with 1920x1080 and get at least 50 fps . Cuz currently I get over 60fps running bc2 maxed out with 8AA ?

September 28, 2011 7:25:08 PM

2GB 5870's crossfired. They max out BFBC2, but I don't think they'll max BF3. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though, because I'm not upgrading until the 7xxx series comes out.

To max out the game you are going to need a DX11 Card, your current card is DX10.
The Recomended is a GTX 560 but you would be better off to get the GTX 560 Ti.

I'm getting rid of my Dual HD 6950's. they can't handle Crysis 2 on max settings with DX11 and enhanced shaders, even though they sound like jet planes.

They freaking suck. FPS count is high but the games looks like crap. 3x BSOD when running starcraft2, probably the LEAST demanding current PC game there is. AMD driver always the cause. RMA didn't help. A pair of GTX 470's make Unigine 'Heaven' then these things do. They have a slightly lower average FPS count, but much higher minimum FPS count, by about 50%.

All settings in catalyst 11.8 are default, minus the enabled crossfire.

I feel like a jackass. I sold my GTX 570 to get 2x HD 6950's with more VRAM and unlock ability. Nither of which helped. Should have went for another GTX 570...

On the other hand, a pair of GTX 580's can be had for less then $800 now, thanks to rebates and discover card's cashback, plus 2 free copies of batman.

EDIT: Yep, still run like ***. Even at 50+ FPS the thing looks like it is running at 15 FPS. As you can see from the second screen shot, I even tried unlocking the shaders on these HD 6950s, overclocking them, adjusting the voltage to HD 6970 level and bumping the power control settings by 20%. I give up.
