You post your prospective hardware here and we'll help you decide. It's not as simple as just adding everything together, as HDD's and RAM and GPU's and everything all use power depending on overclocking settings and applied use.

850W Antec, Seasonic, Corsair, XFX might do it.

If you're going to SLI the GTX580's I'll go with a more potent PSU to match the rest of the system. You're looking into water cooling, so I guess a silent machine is something you're prefer. Something like the Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 1000W will be perfect for this system. Other PSU's worth looking into are ones like the Cougar CM1200, Cooler Master Silent Pro 1000, Antec Quattro 1200 and the Antec HGC900 (smallest, but good). Look at what you can get for the price, and then make a choice.

I'm focusing on a bit more powerful PSU to allow for more headroom later on, such as SLI GTX580's overclocked, a possible liquid cooling system for these cards, additional HDD's in the RAID array should 1TB fall short, etc. etc.

they show as the same price to me... I would stay away from the antec though as its using multiple 12 volt "rails". that's just a marketing trick and not worth the hassle.

silver and gold are efficiency ratings. higher efficiency the less power you pull from the wall and the less waste heat is created in the psu

okay whats the diff? in these 2? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... vs http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... . y is the 1200 cheeper then the 1050? and diff with silver and gold rating?

I'd take the Corsair if I were you. It'd run cooler, more silent and it has a higher efficiency rating. It's strong enough for your setup and it's a great PSU.

Good, but deserves a bit more explanation. The efficiency rating is a measurement of how much of the power the PSU draws from the wall socket is converted into actual usable power for the PC's components. You're looking at higher ratings first, as the more efficient this transfer is the less byproducts such as heat and noise are created by the PSU.

For example, if an 80% certified PSU is at peak efficiency (quite a wide angle these days) and it is delivering the required 800W to the PC components, it will draw 1000W from the wall socket for an efficiency of 80%. At 70% efficiency (less efficient) it will draw more power, and at higher efficiency (may 90%) it will draw less power from the wall whilst still delivering the required 800W.

Alright alright... OP.

First and foremost--

Your system is going to be a high performance computer that is very power hungry.
since you're going all out with the system, why hang back on the power supply.

From looking over your build I can conclude that you need at least an 850w Gold unit at the minimum with 950w+ preferable. I only recommend the best units I can think of when you have such a build.

The lowest PSU I'd go with is also one of the best.
The Seasonic X850 Gold Unit

This is a new recent arrival to the Seasonic X line...
The Seasonic X1250... the sound of it should shiver ye timbers...

If you're going to be going all out with your PC components then don't hesitate with getting a PSU from one of the best consumer PSU makers in existence....

mi 2 cents.

As quiet as possible? Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 1000W is the only way to go. You don't hear that PSU when it's working, at all.

http://www.silentpcreview.com/Recommended_PSUs

In the recommended section is the Corsair AX 850... which is the same internally as the Seasonic X850. Both have the same fan system which shuts off the PSU fan until it hits the ~200-300w load and it's practically inaudible.

Not to mention the X series has slightly high efficiency and better quality than the CM SPG...

just my 2 cents.
