Is my power supply just dead?

I just recently bought brand new parts for my first rig, including a Seasonic X-850. After connecting everything and attempting to power up for the first time, nothing happened at all. I tried some troubleshooting tips (including leaving only ram, graphics card in and even only leaving CPU in) on here and other sites to no avail. I then tried an Antec Neo Eco 520c power supply I had lying around, connected the atx and 12v cables with only the CPU in and low and behold it turned on. Does this mean my power supply is just dead/defective?

Yes! Unless you forgot to plug it in/switch it on!

You may have used the wrong 12v 4 or 8 pin connector with the seasonic. Hard to say. I would check for a manual online if you didn't get one from seasonic.

Believe me, I made sure it was all plugged in/switched on a million times :p  It came with two 'CPU' connectors, tried both and even one 4 pin, nothing worked.

The safest way to test a power supply is this:

1) Remove it from the case
2) Plug it into a socket away from the computer. Do not use the same surge.
3) Use a small piece of wire or paper clip to connect the green "PS_ON" wire to any black:

If the fan kicks in, it's at least working.
