Is their much difference in performance between ati 5670 1gb and 512mb gddr5!

Not. Because that card has already a slow vid processor, and it can't make use of the additional VRAM.
And i'd advise you to not buy that card, for some 40-50$ more you have an HD 5770, which is 2-3x more powerfull, depends on the situation.
